2011–2017 · İstanbul, Ankara, Kaş

From İstanbul back to Kaş

From 2011, İstanbul again became a substantial part of Çağlayan Yıldız’s working life. He taught at Antalya Güzel Sanatlar in 2011 and in İstanbul Bilgi University’s Music Department in 2011–2012. He began a composition doctorate at Bilkent in 2012 and transferred to İTÜ MIAM in 2013. He did not complete the doctorate and left academia, while performing, composing and teaching continued.

Çok Sıkıcı Müzik Dersleri began in Gitar Dergisi in 2011. Together with Bass Layn - Pes Doğrusu in Drum & Bass Dergisi, the series brought ideas from his teaching into print. His weekly TRT Radyo 3 programmes, Çalgıç and Kulak İzi, ran for two years. He prepared them himself, from presenting to editing. His compositions also include In a Relationship, Slightly Disturbed by Others.

Trio Mrio’s second album appeared in 2013. He was an arranger and performer on Şevval Sam’s Tango. He later made two albums with Ajnish Rai, whom he had met in India: Forever in Sai and Golden Days (2012). He played bass on the music of Çağan Irmak’s Benim Adım Feridun.

He lived in Kaş again between 2015 and 2017, served as music director at Düşler Akademisi and performed with Groove Guru’s Klan. His tree portraits were exhibited in Kaş and İstanbul in 2016 under the title Onlar Bize Hep Bakıyor, Biz Onlara Bakmasak da. Another project in 2016 was translation editing: he worked on the Turkish text of Kenny Werner’s Effortless Mastery, published as Zahmetsiz Ustalık. Teaching, performance, radio, photography and work on the book were different parts of this period.

Between two albums

Fifteen years separated Trio Mrio’s albums of 1998 and 2013. Yıldız sees the interval as a chance to hear how the same people changed alongside their music, and which aspects remained.

Unreleased studio recordings

The October 2026 biographical record lists Standards Deconstructed (recorded in 2016), Centrifuge (around 2013) and WeeD feat. Ernst Reijseger (recorded in 2015) as studio recordings that remain unreleased.
